Walmart...and what happened

I made a trip to Walmart today. After going through the check out with all of my groceries, I stopped at McDonalds (inside Walmart) to get a milk shake for Bill. I parked my buggy just outside McDonalds' door

...the way I have done so many times before. I ordered the milk shake, paid and came back out and my buggy was gone. There was one sitting there, but it wasn't mine. I looked out through the front doors of Walmart and I could see several people walking toward their cars with their carts. I started running to catch up with a few of them and everyone said they had the right one. I knew at this point I would never see mine again. As I was going back into Walmart, a man was also going back in with my cart. He had accidentally pushed mine out instead of his. He apologized and I laughed and told him I was almost certain that someone had stolen my groceries. That could happen very easily. After being bagged....anyone could push them out and the greeters would never know the difference. That taught me two lessons. Keep your eyes on your buggy and stay in good running condition!!!!

Funeral For My Neighbor.....

My sweet little neighbor passed away . She would have been 95 on the 6th of Oct. I learned a lot from her. She was from the "old school" and never wanted for much. She was happy with what she had...plenty to eat, a warm house and a loving family. What more could we want? These picture were made at her gravesite on Sunday. Balloons were released and they were out of sight in just a few seconds. It was such a beautiful day. The bagpipe player is my son, Gary.

1..Where was I ten years ago? Ten years ago I had been retired three years. We were in New Orleans in the airport waiting to get on a plane for Central America. We were going with my daughter and her family. My husband had a heart attack in the airport. Needless to say we didn't go to Central America. Everyone else went and left me in Lake Charles, LA. at the hospital for nine days. I will never forget . He finally was well enough to bring back to our hospital in Bristol and he then had his second triple by-pass heart surgery. That's where I was ten years ago.
2..What's on my 'to do' list for today? Well, today is about over, so I will tell you what I have done. I mowed the yard. I changed the beds, washed the sheets and hung them on the line to dry. I made two loaves of Sourdough bread. I took one loaf to my sweet neighbor. She is very ill and probably won't last through the night. She is 96 years old. It won't be the same around here when she is gone.
3..What if I was a billionaire? I would give each of my children one million, pay off all of their debts. I would set up a trust fund for my grandchildren. I would pay what I owe and have the transmission fixed in my car. (Or maybe I would buy a MINI COOPER) I would help those in need, and I would build a bridge of love between my heart and yours. I would give to my church. That's what I would do with a billion dollars.
4..Places I have lived? I have always lived in Tennessee. Several places, but always in North East Tennessee. We call it God's Country!
5..Bad Habits? Oh, do I have to put them on the internet? LOL I'm sure I have plenty...Just ask my husband! He says I have a bad habit of staying up late. He says I have enough yarn to last a life time, but I still buy more if I see a new color. I can't sit down and just sit there. I either have to be reading, crocheting or knitting. I don't know if that is a habit or not, but it's just the way I am. Now can I tell you about HIS bad habits? LOL
6..Snacks I like? Just show me anything that's bad for you, and I like it. Chocolate, chips, cokes, Little Debbie Cakes. I am a diabetic, so I don't eat many of these, but that is what I like. I try to stick with nuts, cheese and I love popcorn!

Americas Got Talent....

Are any of you watching Americas Got Talent? It is down to the top ten. I still do not have a clue who will win. I believe Queen Emily will be very close to the top, and I like Eli, the man who plays the piano and sings. Neal is very good. Donald Braswell may be the winner. Next Wednesday night is the next show....at 8:00 EST on NBC. Watch and see if you can pick a winner.

Bill's Dr. Appt. & Blood Work....Blood is thicker than water...and it boils quicker too! LOL

I don't say much about Bill's illness...I would rather post about "happy" things....but.....I've had a trying week....This past Tuesday was Bill's regular Doctor's Appt. to see his heart Dr. He missed the last one three months ago because he said he didn't feel like going. Well, he tried that again Tuesday morning and I finally told him if he was too sick to go to the Dr., he needed to be in the hospital where they could come see him there. I was going to call 911 if he was too sick to get ready! It took me forever to get him ready...he wouldn't get in the shower so I sponged him the best I could and put clean clothes and socks on him. He wasn't a happy camper!! When we were nearly there he said, "You know, I feel better than I have in a long time." What can I say?????
And this morning, we both had to have our three month blood work done. He did the same thing....it wears me down trying to get him going. I feel like I've been fighting a war. I've been thinking about starting a blog to vent...and call it "The Long And Winding Road"...that leads me to my grave.
Rachel, I just finished reading "The Last Lecture" by Randy Pausch. What a legacy he left. Wouldn't it be nice if everyone was like him?

Our Aunt Virgie Was "Queen For A Day" She will be 91 years young on Oct. 19th.This is Susie and Selmar Humphrey...cousins of Bill...they left their camp site in Saltville to come be with us. Love You Both for this!

This is my son Gary, playing the bagpipes. Everyone seemed to enjoy the entertainment. The sound was perfect on a perfect day!

My Clematis....

This is growing on my fence in the back yard. I thought it wasn't going to live because a tree fell across it during a bad wind storm. I saw one growing in a lady's yard and I stopped and ask her the name and she dug a piece for me. She told me the name, but now I have forgotten. Do any of you know?

SEE ROCK CITY AND A BUZZARD'S NEST.....

I drove to Knoxville (really drove to Blaine) last Tuesday to pick up my grandson Ryan. He came to spend the week with me before going back to work next week. I made two pictures along the way. The buzzard nest is on the road to Lisa's house. It is amazing to see, and is bigger than it looks in the picture. This is one of my favorite barns. It is located on highway 11w about 15 miles outside of Rutledge. Several years ago there were many barns with "See Rock City" painted on them. I think they are getting fewer and fewer.

Egg...ACTLY

how big are eggs supposed to be? These brown eggs are from Lisa's chickens and I put the white one there to compare. The egg carton wouldn't close.

I've been working in my yard today....this is the third day in a row, trying to get caught up on what I have let go all summer. I wish I had made pictures of the before and after. It is beginning to look as if someone lives here and I'm beginning to look like a rag muffin.

Swinging Bridge at Bluff City....

The fog was rolling in Saturday morning as I passed the swinging bridge on my way to the P.O. I'm glad I had my camera with me.
The only thing you can see here is the duck. I think it looks so peaceful.

THE MELTING POT.....

and I'm not talking about the tempature!!!! Lisa took me out to the Melting Pot fondue restaurant in celebration of the completion of my radiation! We had a wonderful time. Here you will see SOME of the food. It is so different than any restaurant I had visited. They bring your food RAW and bite size and you cook it yourself in the fondue pot. You don't get full very quickly because you have to wait on every bite to cook....which is good, because I think most of us eat to fast. I know I do.

And here we are at the restaurant. After our meal we went downtown to Market Square in old downdown Knoxville. It was really busy. Lisa and I enjoyed our time together so much. I told her it was ALMOST worth going through radiation ...to get to go out and spend an evening with her. Thank You, Lisa..... I Love You!

More Food......

This was our main course.... It consisted of Tenderloin, shrimp, terriyaki-marinated choice sirloin, boneless breast of chicken and fresh fish filet.
Our dessert was called Bailey's Irish Cream Dream...with fresh strawberries, bananas, pineapple, cheesecake, tasty marshmallows, pound cake and brownies for you to dip into the flaming chocolate....Yummy!!!!

PRESENT TENSE....

It's been really hot here today. It made me yearn for the cooler days of fall. Then I thought of a poem.....It's called :

Present Tense
It was Spring, but it was Summer I wanted
The warm days, and the great outdoors.

It was Summer, but it was Fall I wanted
The colorful leaves, and the cool dry air.

It was Fall, but it was Winter I wanted,
The beautiful snow, and the joy of the holiday season.

It was Winter, but it was Spring I wanted
The warmth and the blossoming of nature.

I was a child, but it was adulthood I wanted...
The freedom and the respect.

I was 20. but it was 30 I wanted
To be mature and sophisticated.

I was middle-aged, but it was 20 I wanted...

I was retired but it was middle-age I wanted..
The presence of mind, without limitations.

My life was over, and I never got what I wanted.

I think this is true to a certain point, but I cannot say I NEVER got what I wanted. I try to accept whatever life has to offer!

BEFORE AND AFTER.....

I've been cutting and trimming again today! These are my weeping cherry trees beside my driveway. It's beginning to look different. What do you think?

I GAVE MY WISTERIA A HAIRCUT.....

Doesn't this look better? I worked all evening and it was well worth it! Now I can get to my chair and I hear it calling my name this very moment. Tomorrow morning , at breakfast time, it will be calling my name again.
Whew!!!!!!! I'm glad that is finished!!!!!

MY WISTERIA.......

has gone wild! I planted it in the WRONG place to begin with. That was fifteen years ago. Every year since then I have trimmed it back to keep it from going into the house. This year I haven't trimmed it and it has just about taken over. It has never bloomed and I know it's because I have to cut it back so often. Now that it's cooled down some, I think that is going to be my next project.
Can you see where I USED to sit and read? This is a little deck just outside of my bedroom. I miss that chair!

Lucas' Hospital Ordeal....and more....

Lucas had to be circumcised. He is thirteen. After my treatment Tuesday, I headed for Lisa's. Lucas had to be at the hospital at 12:15. I stayed with him and he was happy. He did really well, and is almost completely healed . I stayed all night Tuesday night and came back home Wednesday. I thought I smelled something bad when I opened the back door at my house, but couldn't figure out what it was. I knew I hadn't left any trash out, but there was something not right. When I started to cook, I went down stairs to my freezer to get corn. I opened it, and everything was thawed..... and it seemed to have been thawed for a long time. What a mess it was! It was about seven P.M. I knew I had to get it out so I filled seven big black trash bags. I put them outside in my drive way. Then I had to dip a foot of bad water out of the freezer. I poured bleach in and brought the water hose in and washed it down with water. I did that twice. Come to find out, the breaker was off in the main box. I knew my fish pond pump had stopped working, but I thought the pump had gone bad. NOT...It was on the same circuit. Now I had all of the food out in my driveway, and I knew the dogs would have a field day that night, so I waited until my son came home at 9:30 and he put a ladder up to the roof over my deck. He put the bags of food up on the roof until the next morning. I then called Waste Management and they told me where to take it to a land fill. When I got there...about twenty BIG trash trucks were in front of me. It took an hour to get in and an hour to get out. They weighed my car before and after. I had 180 lbs. of food. That was enought to last all winter. But now I have a clean freezer and it's time to fill it again. I just pray the breaker doesn't get throwed....I'm tired and I hate rotten food!
