PRESENT TENSE....

It's been really hot here today. It made me yearn for the cooler days of fall. Then I thought of a poem.....It's called :

Present Tense
It was Spring, but it was Summer I wanted
The warm days, and the great outdoors.

It was Summer, but it was Fall I wanted
The colorful leaves, and the cool dry air.

It was Fall, but it was Winter I wanted,
The beautiful snow, and the joy of the holiday season.

It was Winter, but it was Spring I wanted
The warmth and the blossoming of nature.

I was a child, but it was adulthood I wanted...
The freedom and the respect.

I was 20. but it was 30 I wanted
To be mature and sophisticated.

I was middle-aged, but it was 20 I wanted...
The youth and the free spirit.

I was retired but it was middle-age I wanted..
The presence of mind, without limitations.

My life was over, and I never got what I wanted.

I think this is true to a certain point, but I cannot say I NEVER got what I wanted. I try to accept whatever life has to offer!

A very thought-provoking poem, Clara. I think sometimes I have trouble enjoying the present moment I'm in because I'm fretting about the past or worrying about the future. It's a wonderful thing to be content with where you are right now.

Clara,
Wonderful poem! I see you are also a fan of Tasha Tudor. Great lady, I will miss her.

Thought provoking is the word.
I think I've finally learned to go with the flow.

That poem has a lot of truth in it. It hits us all right in the gut and makes us live in the now and appreciate the good things we have in whatever season we find ourselves in.

Interesting poem.It reminded me of something my dad used to say to me. When I was a little girl and said I wish I was 12, he said, "don't wish your life away." When I was 14 and wanted to be 16, He said it again.
Now Dad is gone and I am near 70 and I wish I could be a little girl again.

Loved the poem - so true.

Dear Clara,
Thank you for the poem. It is so true that we often wish for what we don't have and aren't happy with the blessings we do have. I think I am pretty happy with what we have, and I certainly have always been happy with whatever age I am. Some people agonize over getting older, but I love the age I am always. Just thankful to be this old and getting older. I love poetry!
