IT'S MEMORY MONDAY.....Please share a memory from your childhood.

I'm starting Memory Monday.  Every Monday morning let's share a memory from our childhood.  Here's my first one:    My Daddy  raised tobacco when we were small.  We helped him work in the fields to set it out and everything else that had to be done to it.   We  looked forward to the time when he took it to the market to be sold.  Every year on that day, when he returned, he would always bring a box of Beech-Nut Chewing Gum and bags of Chocolate Cream Drops.  It was like Christmas before Christmas came.  Oh  what a sweet memory.   Looking forward to some of your memories from childhood.

We raised chickens when I was a child. My mom saved the printed feed sacks and sewed our dresses out of them. They were very cute. Many farm people used them that way.

Margie, I know all about printed feed sacks. I will tell a story about them next Monday.

I remember gathering some 'rabbit tobacco' (a weed) and a friend and I rolled some up in a small square of paper. We put it in our mouths and lit up our 'cigarettes' like grownfolks. We were in the loft of the barn, wonder we didn't burn the barn down.

What a wonderful memory, Clara! I remember working in tobacco when I was a kid in Eastern North Carolina. I remember how much I loved listening to all the conversations swirling around me as I "handed" tobacco (to the loopers---I guess they don't do that anymore). I remember throwing those awful green tobacco worms at each other, too. :-)

We raised tobacco too. I didn't like it since it's a year round job! I did it all in tobacco except for the cutting.

I recall my friend and I going barefoot into a pond that was mostly mud. We'd be sunk in up to our knees and it was hard to get around, but it was great fun! I wouldn't do it now since I know about mud turtles! I'm so thankful we never encountered any of them! But it was fun to have all that mud squishing between your toes and the coolness on a hot summer day! Such fun times!!
