Jury Duty???? I don't think so!

I was summoned for Jury Service. I was ready to go get an excuse from my Doctor because of my Chemo treatments. I happened to look on the back of the summons and there is a number you can call if you have a problem serving. I called the number and there is a long list of reasons you cannot serve. The first one is...if you are over seventy....I fit into that category....then, if you are a teacher, doctor, lawyer, or if you have served within the last two years. (and a lot more I can't remember) I had to leave a message telling them my excuse. Here is the message I left.... My name is Clara Melvin, I live at S------ G------ R-, Bluff City, TN. I have an excuse for not appearing for jury service....in fact, I have more than ONE excuse. 1..I am over seventy. 2..I am taking chemo for breast cancer. 3.. My husband is an invalid. 4..My son has a broken leg. 5..I have served within the last two years. If you need any more excuses, please call me at this number. Thank You, Have a good day!
I bet I won't have to go.....what do you think?

Bet you won't have to go. You have way more on your plate than they expected. Not room to move it over either.

I've never served. Always had a valid reason. I went from having a child under age 10 to being the primary caregiver of an invalid! Oh well, I'm 43 now....so I suppose my next excuse will be that I am over 70! LOL Hugs and take care.

How funny! I bet they laughed when they heard it. I don't think you will have to serve either. I was summoned for federal duty one time and got out of it because I did not have anyone to work in my store, so surely they will let you out. Then, I had to serve once in my local town. I knew everyone from running a store in the area. They brought in this guy that was always in trouble for drugs, dui, etc. and he waved at me and said "Hi, Judy". They kicked me off right then!! lol.

You go, girl. I always try to find some excuse not to serve and usually get dismissed.

You certainly have all kinds of valid reasons.

Hey Clara, If it hadn't been for your chemo , you should have served. Look at it this way..... Maybe they would not be able to decide on guilty or not and they would put you up in a motel . Would that not be like a vacation for you. !!!!!! LOL Carolyn

To server or not to server that is the question. I think you had the answer. Hope things get better soon.

Clara, I have a feeling that once they hear your message, they'll never call you for jury duty again! Goodness, you certainly have more than enough to deal with---I do hope that 2009 will be a year of peace and ease for you. You deserve it.

Checking your blog for the first time as I saw on Judy's you were from Tennessee like myself. No I do not believe you will have to do jury duty. Your plate is full!!!
Take care.

Love it. You took care of it from every angle. I'd put money on you not having to serve.

Oh Clara...if only we lived closer together we could keep the magic of Christmas and all the noisy fun stuff going. I remember as a little girl I got to stay with Grandma and Grandpa for an extra few days after Christmas. Grandma still had surprises and fun stuff to do long after everyone went home. Beautiful memories you have given to your grandchildren for years to come.
Wishing you and your family a wonderful and happy New Year!!

I'm so sorry for all the problems Clara but glad you were excused from Jury Duty. Sometimes it's just too much of a hardship to work those things into our busy life, especially when there are problems as you have right now.
I pray the new year will bring good health, peace and lots and lots of love to you and yours.
God Bless

Personally I would love to do Jury service, but would be rather nervous to do so. I think you have enough excuses. I read on Judy's comments about the wii fit.I too have one and have had so much fun trying to keep fit without going to the gym. I have enjoyed reading some of your blogs, keep up the good work.

Yvonne.

I think you've got MORE than enough reasons to be excused from jury duty.
:-)
I served as an alternate juror on a murder trial several years ago. Apart from that, I have not served any other time, and since I was an alternate, I did not have to deliberate and decide on guilty or innocence.
