Bristol Tennessee among top 100 places for young people....

The city has been named one of the best communitiies for young people in America, an honor that recognizes the work of a number of agencies and their efforts to support the city's youth. America's Promise, a national organization that advocates for youth, received more than 1,000 applications last year. Bristol was one of three in Tennessee chosen for the honor. The picture above was made last summer of some young people. I don't even know who they are. I stopped to make a picture of the swinging bridge and they wanted in the picture. The sign that hangs over State St, downtown says it all..."BRISTOL, TN. VA...A GOOD PLACE TO LIVE".....

Meet Otis....Our Cat.....

This is Otis...sleepy and lazy. He came to our house just over a year ago as a stray. It didn't take him long to decide this is where he wants to live. Who can blame him?????? He eats better than me, and has a cat heating pad to sleep on. Why would he want to leave? Bill thinks more of him than anything around here (including me, I think) But that's O.K. Cat's need love too!!!!

A CROCHETER'S LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT...All in FUN!!!

  • Being of sound mind and body (a statement which does not bear close examination)..... I, Clara Melvin, do hereby record my last will and testament.

Knowing that Bill, my dear husband hasn't the least appreciation for....or for that matter KNOWLEDGE of my extensive yarn collection....which is deposited in sundry places for safe keeping. Knowing also that Bill has already notified the local dumpster....that should I precede my beloved to the Great Crochet Shop in the sky....to pick up and dispose of the before mentioned collection "willie-nillie", the thought of which causes me a most severe case of hives.

Therefore, I do will this collection and all other collections related to it, to my dear friends and fellow yarn collectors Janis and Carolyn. It is my wish that Janis and Carolyn, upon hearing of my death and obtaining clear proof that I did not manage, although goodness knows I tried, to take it with me.....would come to my home, before the dumpster, search out my collection which is scatterly stored. That said collection should be rescued and put in my crochet studio along with my crochet needles, knitting needles, sewing machine, frames, old buttons, lace, crochet books, quilts, dolls and works in progress.

And after this has been done....refreshments should be purchased for my friends not yet departed...and every last one of them shall be in that room and they shall hold a wake and say lovely and kind things about me until they run out and then they shall divide amongth themselves, by lot, my wonderful collection.

I shall be hovering over that very spot until this is done. Janis and Carolyn shall then leave this spot and close the door, leaving the car, the house and all the stocks and bonds and other worldly things to those who don't understand.

This is my wish in the matter.

Signed: Clara Melvin Date: 01/23/07

Bill Gates vs GM...Technology Bow.....

For all of us who feel only the deepest love and devotion for the way computers have enhanced our lives, read on..... At a recent computer (COMDEX), Bill Gates reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated "If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25.00 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon. In response to Bill's comments, General Motors issued a press release stating, "If GM had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics (and I love this part): 1..For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash.....Twice a day. 2..Everytime they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to buy a new car. 3..Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You would have to pull to the side of the road, close all of the windows, shut off the car, restart it, and reopen the windows before you could continue. For some reason you would simply accept this. 4.. Occasionally, executing a maneuver such as a left turn would cause your car to shut down and refuse to restart, in which case you would have to reinstall the engine. 5..Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive....but would run on only five percent of the roads. 6..The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights would all be replaced by a single "This Car Has Performed An Illegal Operation" warning light. 7..The airbag system would ask "Are You Sure"? before deploying. 8.. Ocasionally, your car would lock you out and refuse to let you in until you simultaneously lifted the door handle, turned the key and grabbed hold of the radio antenna. 9..Every time a new car was introduced buyers would have to learn how to drive all over agin because none of the controls would operate in the same manner as the old car. 10..(and this is the BEST one)... You'd have to press the "START" button to turn the engine off. This is for the people who LOVE .....but sometimes HATE their computer.

I FOUND ANOTHER QUILT BARN....

and it's not far from my house. I knew it was there, but hadn't made it's picture. Note how you can see all the way through the barn and also, how grey the clouds were that day. I like this one for some reason.

Yeah!!!! It's snowing....It's pouring.....

and the old man is snoring!!! LOL. (I wish I were) Now it seems like Christmas. This is the first time our ground has been white all winter. The picture is made out my back door. I want to get out and build a snowman. If Ryan and Lucas were here, that is where I would be right now! I love it.

Bill gets a PACEMAKER.....

This is Bill waiting in the Doctor's office. The good Doctor will call and set up an appointment for implanting a pacemaker. He was not a candidate for the defibulator. The pacemaker will keep his heart rate up in order to increase some of the meds he is already taking. Heavens!!!! If he has to take many more pills, he won't ever have to eat any food. He will be full of pills. He already rattles when he walks. (24 pills a day )
