This square goes out for the month of April to my partner Lynn in North Platte, NE. It's called the Columbine Square and was orginally made in the color blue for the Columbine High School and was designed by: Susan Ann Smith.
Friendship improves happiness and relieves misery by the doubling of our joy and the dividing of our grief.

GRANDMOTHERS...This one is for you Grammie....
GRANDMOTHERS.....Grandmother-grandchild relationships are simple. Grandmas are short on criticism and long on love~~~~ Author Unkown

A grandmother is a little bit parent, a little bit teacher, and a little bit best friend~~~Author Unkown
The history of our grandparents is remembered not with rose petals but in the laughter and tears of their children and their children's children. It is into us that the lives of grandparents have gone. It is in us that their history becomes a future~~~Charles and Ann Morse
What is it about grandparents that is so lovely? I'd like to say that grandparents are God's gifts to children And if they can but see, hear and feel what these people have to give, they can mature at a fast rate~~~Bill Cosby
"You're more trouble than the children are" is the greatest compliment a grandparent can receive~~~Gene Perret
Grandchildren don't stay young forever, which is good because Grandmothers have only so many horsey rides in them~~~Gene Perret
Grandma always made you feel she had been waiting to see just you all day and now the day was complete~~~Marcy DeMaree

Tree House.....
Bill and I went for a drive down by the river today. This tree house caught my eye. I can see children climbing into it and making a play house. The river is just in front of the house. Things like this are the only things I had to do as a child. We never had a TV, Nintendo, M3 Players, Game Boys, Cell Phones..... I didn't even have a phone at all until after I married. How times have changed......some for the better.......some not!!!!

Prairie Star Afghan.....
I finished my Prairie Star. Thanks to Rachel...she sent a picture of one she had seen on e-bay. I knew I had the directions somewhere. It took me over a week to find them.... I had all of the yarn....but ran out of one color and went to my Crochet Partner List and found Christina in California. She sent me enough to finish it. I enjoyed working on this one very much.......Maybe because I remember my Mother making a quilt from this pattern. This one belongs to Ryan (my grandson).

Beautiful Sunshine.....
I have never been so happy to see the sunshine. It seems the last "snow" and little cold snap just about got to me. It is so nice here this morning. I can hear the birds singing and carrying twigs to build their nest. I am working on an afghan called Prairie Star. I lacked TWO small diamonds and ran out of yarn. I belong to Crochet partners on line, so I wrote and ask if any one had any of the yarn . A lady from California is sending some to me. I think I will call it my California Prairie Star. I will post a picture when it is completed.
Enjoy your day...wherever you are!!!!!!

When The Snow Is On The Lilac....
It's Sunday afternoon, April 15th at 4:43 in the afternoon. The temperature is 32 degrees. The ground is almost completely white. It has snowed MORE since I made these pictures. I think I will put my Christmas tree up again....which reminds me of a story! It was April 1998 and it snowed 17 inches. I put up a tree out in my front yard with lights and all. Bill said I had lost my mind! I told him if that caused one person to laugh, it would be worth it. Just about that time, my phone rang and it was the 85 year old man who lived across the road from me. His voice was slow and quaint. He said, "I just called to wish you a Merry Christmas". I wish he were still alive...I would put the tree up just for him!

A is for Apple, and B is for Boat......
That used to be right, But now it won't float!
Age before Beauty is what we once said,
But let's be a bit more real instead.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Now A's for arthritis;
B's the bad back,
C is the chest pains, perhaps car-d-iac?
D is for dental decay and decline,
E is for eyesight, can't read that top line!
F is for fissures and fluid retention,
G is for gas which I'd rather not mention.
H is high blood pressure...I'd rather it low;
I for incision!(s) with scars you can show.
J is for joints, out of socket, won't mend,
K is for knees that crack when they bend.
L for libido, what happened to sex?
M is for memory, I forgot what comes next.
N is neuraligia, in nerves way down low;
O is for osteo, the bones that don't grow!
P for prescriptions, I have quite a few, (Just give me a pill and I'll be good as new!)
Q is for queasy, is it fatal or flu?
R for reflux, one meal turns to two.
S for sleepless nights, counting my fears,
T for Tinnitus; there's bells in my ears!
U is for urinary; big troubles with flow'
V is for vertigo, That's "dizzy", you know.
W is for worry, NOW what's going 'round?
X is for X-ray, and what might be found.
Y is another year I'm left here behind,
Z is for ZEST that I still have......(IN MY MIND)
I've survived all the symptoms, my body's deployed,
and I've kept twenty-six doctors fully employed!!!!!
GETTING OLDER~~~~~~
"TELL ME THIS WON'T HAPPEN TO US!!!!!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Lost In the Darnest Places
An elderly woman called 911 on her cell phone to report her car had been broken into. She is hysterical as she explains her situation to the dispatcher: They've stolen the stereo, the steering wheel, the brake pedal and even the accelerator!" she cried.
The dispatcher said, "Stay calm, an officer is on the way." A few minutes later, the officer radios in....."Disregard, he says, "She got in the back seat by mistake."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
FAMILY
Three sisters, ages 92, 94 and 96 live in a house together. One night the 96 year old draws a bath. She puts her foot in and pauses. She yells to the other sisters, "Was I getting in or out of the bath?"
The 94 year old yells back, "I don't know but I'll come up and see." She starts up the stairs and pauses... "Was I going up or down the stairs?"
The 92 year old is sitting at the kitchen table having tea listening to her sisters. She shakes her head and says, "I sure hope I never get that forgetful, knock on wood." She then yells, "I'll come up and help both of you as soon as I see who's at the door.
Easter sunday.....
Lisa and her family came home today. It has been a wonderful Easter. We colored eggs when they first came and then........
Lisa made hot cross buns. We had a wonderful lunch of Party Chicken, mashed potaotes with cheese on top, green beans and slaw. The dessert was four different kinds of cheese cake. Yummy. I hated to see them leave, but we made some good memories.
Bristol Virginia's Veteran's Memorial Park....
located adjacent to the City Courthouse, was built to honor the veterans of all our nation's armed conflicts and provide a respectful and peaceful setting in the downtown area. The City of Bristol acquired a AH-1F aircraft for display in the park and it was emplaced in the park on August 2, 2002. It is barely visable in my picture.
The other picture is a stage for entertainment.
SURGERY BEGINS ON OLD HOSPITAL IN BRISTOL.....
Although the city's official position is that the old structure can't be saved, work began Monday to repair and renovate the Kings Mountain Hospital State Street structure. Of course it will never be a hospital again, but it has been said the building would be an "ideal" location for a bank, other professional offices and a restaurant.
This is the Kings Mountain nurses' quarters. Work is also expected to begin soon on refurbishing the nurses' quarters into transitional housing for homeless men. I don't have a record of these buildings, but I think they were built in the 1920's.
