In 1895 George Vanderbilt created Biltmore as an escape from everyday life for his family and friends. Today his descendents invite you to enjoy the Vanderbilt legancy on this 8.000 acre estate. It is amazing. It's really hard to imagine how anyone in 1895 had that much money. If you ever get a chance you should visit Biltmore. You won't be sorry. It is decorated for Christmas now and one room had a live Fraizer fir Christmas tree that was 35 feet tall. The ceiling in that room was 70 feet. You can Google it to learn more. No cameras were allowed on the inside, but I snapped a few on the outside. As always, click to enlarge picture.
Friendship improves happiness and relieves misery by the doubling of our joy and the dividing of our grief.

MORNING GLORIES IN MY YARD.....
Beth...these make me think of you! Most morning glory flowers unravel into full bloom in the early morning. Thus getting their name. The flowers usually start to fade a few hours before the "petals" start showing visable curling. They prefer full sun throughout the day. Some morning glories are night blooming flowers. I imagine they are called "night glories" or maybe "moon glories". Some people don't like them because of their fast growing and twining habit. On the other hand, other people like them because they are excellent vines for creating summer shade on building walls when trellised, thus keeping the building cooler and reducing heating and cooling costs. I like them for their beauty and they make me think of my Mother. She always planted a few seed in the spring around the porch when we were small. What are your feelings on this viney flower?

MY BUDDIES ON THE SWINGING BRIDGE......
Lisa came home to spend the day with me this past Monday. Of course that is Ryan and Lucas and they have a cousin staying at their house for a month. She lives in El Salvador. The month is almost up. She has been a joy to have around. All of them hate to see her go home. Altho she isn't used to the farm life, she adapted really well. Not counting the fact she has been stung twice. One time by a red wasp. Her name is Andrea. This swinging bridge is about two miles below my house.

M FLOODED YARD.....THIS MORNING
It rained three inches in about 30 minutes. That's the "biggest" river I have seen in a long time. It happens only when it rains hard and you know how long that has been. (Click twice to enlarge.)
This is my next door neighbor's yard.
This looks like a boat out there but it's my satelite dish disassembled.

It's watermelon time in Tennessee. Isn't he cute? Beth, I thought of you when I did this. It's really hot outside again today. The weather people were calling for 98. I haven't have the news on, but it sure feels like an oven out there. Hope everyone is staying cool!!!! Eat some watermelon!

FRONT DOOR.....
I painted my front door yesterday. That's a "Winter Angel" hanging there, but I like the look of the snow flakes. What do you think?

Climbing Cucumbers/////
Here's the cucumbers starting to vine up the teepee made from bamboo. They are doing good so far. Soon I will have to add more string. the teepee is about 12 foot tall. The last time I did this, I had to have a ladder to pick them.
